Anthony J. Taketa
(Of Counsel)

Mr. Taketa was admitted to the Bar of the State of California in 1983, and joined Poindexter & Doutré' in 1988. He is a member of the firm. He received his B.A. (summa cum laude) from Loyola Marymount University in 1980 and J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law.

Drawing on a broad scope of experience in both federal and state courts, Mr. Taketa specializes in business, real estate, construction and probate litigation.

For business clients, he has handled a wide variety of lawsuits including breach of contract, fraud, defamation, negligence, interference with prospective economic advantage, trade secret, partnership dissolution and secured creditor claims.

In real estate, he has represented litigants in tenant eviction proceedings, title and boundary disputes, fraudulent conveyances, foreclosures and violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Mr. Taketa has protected the interests of owners, general contractors and subcontractors in construction cases including mechanic’s lien, stop notice and bond claims and delay and construction defect allegations. He recently was the successful appellate counsel in the published decision D'Orsay International Partners v. Superior Court (Stone), 123 Cal.App.4th 836, 20 Cal. Rptr. 3d 399 (2004), concerning the availability of mechanic's lien rights for a design-build contractor rendering pre-construction services when actual construction did not go forward.

Mr. Taketa has developed expertise in probate and trust litigation, having represented administrators, executors, trustees, and beneficiaries in will contests, petitions to interpret trust instruments, proceedings to adjudicate adverse claims to property, petitions to determine entitlement to distribution, breach of trust actions, and creditor’s claims.

Mr. Taketa also undertakes transactional matters in real estate and construction including the drafting and review of agreements, notices, disclosures, escrow instructions, leases and options. For many years, he handled lease negotiations and provided counsel to a nationally recognized restaurant chain and its franchisees.

Mr. Taketa is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the State Bar of California.
